Jim Carrey, arguably the most paid comedian in Hollywood, junior most member of his Canada based family. His father was a musician and accountant. He was a performer from a very young age. he had to work extremely hard to earn bread and shelter for his family during his school days He moved to LA in 1979 to test his luck as an actor and comedian. he made extremely good impression on Rodney Dangerfield that this veteran comic signed him and he got an opportunity to do an opening act for an entire season. His next sitcom “The Duck Factory" went miserably flop. He got himself some acclaim in the comedy “In Living Color". His true stardom came through his 1994 movie Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.
Though he was not appreciated much by the critics but it was a commercial hit. Later on he worked on the sequel Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls (1995).Same year Jim Carrey was casted as a riddle in the movie Batman Forever. Earlier, in 1994 his movie Dumb and Dumber and The Mask fetched him multi million bucks. He was paid a record 20 million (for a comic role) for his next comedy The Cable Guy. He again set records in his next comedy Liar Liar (1997), but shifted gears quickly after that and did a movie, Peter Weir's The Truman Show (1998). The movie showcased his talent as a serious actor and surprised many movie aficionados. Eventually He went on to win a Golden Globe for his performance.
Me, Myself & Irene got released in 2000 and Bruce Almighty in 2003 which got him another level of success.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) got him critical acclaim in which he was casted along with Kate Winslet. He was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role and co-star Kate Winslet received an Oscar nomination for her performance.
Carrey joint hands with Joel Schumacher In 2007, who casted him in the movie Batman Forever, This time he directed him in the movie The Number 23, a psychological thriller.
Jim Carrey has been successful in his comic avatar as well as established himself as a good actor too.
