The Nominations for the 81st Annual Academy Oscar Awards was announced on 22nd January 2009 by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President Sid Ganis and Oscar winner Forest Whitaker. Ganis and Whitaker, who won an Academy Award for lead performance in "The Last King of Scotland" (2006), announced the nominees in 10 of the 24 categories at a live news conference attended by more than 400 international media representatives.
