But 2003 brought some luck to him as his films, including Phone Booth, S.W.A.T., and The Recruit were well-received box office successes that year.

Colin FarrellColin Farrell has a pronounced Irish accent but he uses an American accent in some of his films including American Outlaws and Tigerland. Colin FarrellThe very next year in 2004 Farrell did some independent films that received only a limited theatrical release in most countries. These films included A Home at the End of the World, in which Farrell appeared as a bisexual character, and the film received some positive reviews. One of his most controversial roles was in 2004 in the movie Oliver Stone's biopic Alexander, in which he played the title role of Alexander the Great. This film received a mixed response with some favorable reviews internationally and mostly mediocre and negative reviews in the United States. The film proved controversial for portraying the ancient conqueror as bisexual and hence received criticism from some historians for such a portrayal of the ancient Persians, though others praised it for its accuracy in these regards.

Colin FarrellIn 2005, Farrell starred in another historical epic, The New World, in which he played the leading role of captain John Smith, the founder of 17th century colonial Jamestown, Virginia who falls in love with a beautiful Native American princess, Pocahontas, played by Q'Orianka Kilcher. In Bruges was the film which opened the Sundance Film Festival last year. Farrell was lucky with this film because his role as Ray, a hired hitman, in the film, earned him his first nomination and win at the Golden Globe Awards.

Colin FarrellShortly after this success Farrell starred in Kicking It. Kicking it was a documentary based on six homeless men from different countries and their attempt to qualify for the Homeless World Cup. Colin Farrell was the narrator of the movie and was present throughout the movie.
